Product Team Processes
Process and framework improvements for the Product team.
Problem
Product processes and outputs not fit for purpose due to recent and substantial company growth. Key areas within the product team for improvement:
Transparency and visibility across the organisation
Alignment and focus against company OKRs
Review
Performed a holistic review of the current processes using product best practices as a baseline. Presented and gained feedback from the product team. We then performed further discovery with other department within the organisation to highlight the key areas to focus on. Some key feedback:
We aren't sure where to find an up to date roadmap and are unclear on what the product team is working on
It is not clear on how work is prioritised and enters a teams backlog
Work can't be easily linked back to company OKRs
Other teams would like to have input on initiatives and focus
Outputs
To build out trust and visibility and ensure alignment we settled on the below improvements. Note - these have been introduced, trialed and iterated, all the time asking for continuous feedback.
Transparency and Visibility:
Created a centralised high-level product roadmap that is accessible to all and continuously updated
Monthly meetings with key teams to review and prioritise roadmap (ad-hoc where needed)
Company wide updates at key product delivery points
Alignment and focus against company OKRs:
Created a one-pagers framework and template to be collaboratively built clearly showing impact on company OKRs
